West Fjords Elopement in Iceland

Back in May of 2025, Keira and Paige inquired with me about their Iceland West Fjords elopement. Keira and Paige both knew they wanted an intentional day spent together in a completely new place, taking in all the scenery, and spending quality time together – and that’s where their planning all started for their West Fjords Elopement in Iceland this past September! 😍

Keira & Paige eloped in the remote West Fjords on September 8th, 2025 and man when I tell you their day was pure magic… I MEAN THAT!! We went just as things closed down for the season which made the West Fjords especially quiet and beautiful.

They knew they wanted their trip to Iceland to consist of 3 things: waterfalls, whales, and epic landscapes. I think it’s safe to say that Iceland freaking DELIVERED for these two!!

Planning Their Elopement in the West Fjords of Iceland

Would you say it’s pretty wild that we got their elopement adventure completely planned in about 4 months?! By the time they reached out to me in May, we had just 4 months until their September date so we got right to planning. As their Iceland elopement photographer, my goal right away was to take off as much stress as I could for them and give them all the recommendations and information they could possibly need!

Keira and Paige knew they wanted to explore somewhere that wasn’t super crowded and busy. They didn’t want their first trip to Iceland to be what everyone does (the golden circle and the south coast) so when I recommended the west fjords and Northern Iceland for them to adventure… they immediately said yes.

Are you ready to see what their day and experience looked like?!

Their West Fjords Elopement in Iceland

Getting Ready Together At Their Airbnb in Þingeyri

K&P started the day by getting ready together in their adorable little guesthouse that was just on the other side of Þingeyri (fun fact: this guesthouse was called Brekka, which also happened to be the name of their favorite cafe on their first trip together back in 2020 so it was totally meant to be!) after sipping on some coffee and reading the letters their family and friends sent with them. Talk about a hell of a way to start off the day! There was a little rain, and a whole lot of smiles.

Dynjandi Elopement Adventure

After they did their first look at Brekka, we then set off for one of the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve ever seen: Dynjandi. I still remember what Paige said when she saw the waterfall as we came around the corner, “Oh my god, is that it?!”

Fun Fact: Dynjandi is located in the Arnarfjörður fjord, which is known as the most notorious sea monster fjord! It’s also about 330 feet tall and it’s name, Dynjandi, means “Thundering”.

We timed K&P’s day perfectly, because right as we arrived, all the tour buses left and there were only a few other people left. We spent about a couple of hours walking around and soaking it all in. Words can’t even begin to describe how powerful Dynjandi is.

Exploring the West Fjords & Private Vows

After adventuring around Dynjandi, we then traveled to a cute little pier located in another fjord and we were greeted by a sweet group of researchers (at least we think they were researchers!) that pointed out the rare northern bottlenose whales were swimming at the surface in the fjord. It was a pretty special place to exchange vows, that’s for sure ❤️

Keira and Paige were absolutely THRILLED that whales appeared on their elopement day, and we didn’t want to leave. Who needs witnesses when you can have whales be your witness?

Ending The Day with Dinner and Cribbage

After spending the day adventuring around the west fjords, we made it back to their Airbnb where they ate dinner, spent some more time chatting, drank some wine, and ending the night with some games of cribbage! After their photography coverage was up, they invited me to stay a bit later to play cribbage with them, and being the Midwesterner that I am… I couldn’t say no!
