Why You Should Consider Split Photography Coverage for Your Elopement

If you’re reading this, you and your partner are probably wondering why you should consider split photography coverage for your elopement OR you want to learn more about it because it’s not exactly common!

That’s why I’m here! I’m a HUGE fan of split photography coverage on elopement days for a multitude of reasons, and that’s why so many of my elopement packages include the option to split your photography coverage hours. It isn’t for everybody, but there’s lots of couples and elopement days that it fits so well for!

What Does It Mean to Split Photography Coverage on Your Elopement Day? What Is a Split Day?

Split photography coverage or a split elopement day means non-consecutive photography coverage! That means you can split your day into part one and part two. Most elopement photographers don’t offer this option, but I love offering this for soooo many reasons!

Keep scrolling to read through exactly why I added this to my elopement packages and why I love it so much!

Splitting Your Elopement Day Is For Couples Who:

  • Are more introverted and appreciate downtime to recharge their batteries
  • Want to have the best of both worlds: loved ones present BUT time for your own adventures
  • Are looking to include activities into their day
  • Can’t choose between sunrise or sunset

Does this sound like you?! Keep reading for reasons why you should really consider splitting your elopement day 🙂

Why You Should Consider Split Photography on Your Day

Your Day Will Feel Less Rushed

When you split your elopement day into two parts, your entire day is going to feel less rushed in the end. Especially if you’re wanting to include a handful of moving parts into your day like activities/excursions, dinner with your loved ones, private time for the two of you, etc. Doing all of that back to back can be a lot! But when you can split it up into different parts of the day, it’ll feel way more relaxed and chill. I promise!

You Can Include Locations That Are Further Away

Are you wanting to go to multiple locations that are far away from each other? When you have a midday break, you can dedicate that to grabbing some lunch and traveling to a location that’s further away. Again, not a lot of other elopement photographers allow this but I personally love it!

For example, if you’re eloping in Iceland? Everything in Iceland is quite spread out, so split coverage would be perfect for including multiple locations that are further away!

Get a Break Between Big Parts of Your Day

Having a break to rest, eat, hydrate, and maybe even nap between big parts of your elopement day can make all the difference in your experience! While all my elopement days include a break to eat and is something I highly encourage, it’s always nice to be able to rest, be “off” for a little bit, and maybe even nap. Then you can come back to the second part of your day feeling refreshed!

Don’t Have to Choose Between Sunrise or Sunset

This is a HUGE perk of split photography coverage! Sunrise and sunset are both such BEAUTIFUL parts of the day, and it can be hard trying to choose which location to be at for which time. With split coverage… you can make that decision easier!

The lighting at sunrise and sunset is also so different and both so beautiful in their own ways. Why not include both, right?!

Introverts Can Recharge Their Battery

Introverts, I see you!! I’m an ambivert myself and completely understand how important it is to recharge your battery. Even if it’s just us three for your elopement, it can feel so nice to have a break so you can just sit and reset! Then you can put your best self into both parts of your day.

You Can Include Family AND Have Personal Time to Yourselves

Are you struggling to figure out how to include some of your loved ones on your elopement day but you also really want to have more than 30 minutes to an hour of designated time where it’s just the two of you? This is the perfect way to do that, without having a multi-day elopement!

You can set aside the morning where it’s just the two of you, doing your thing. You can go off on an adventure, have a slow morning with coffee and games, do a little face mask together, share private vows, the list is really endless!

Then the part two of your day can be spent with your loved ones with your ceremony, portraits with those loved ones, dinner/celebration, playing games, etc.

Time to Freshen Up if Needed

If you’re planning to go hiking, swimming, getting sweaty in anyway, etc. It can be so nice to have the time to freshen up completely without rushing! Especially if you’re adventuring before your ceremony.

What Splitting Your Elopement Day Can Look Like:

Slow Morning + Adventure Later

You can start your elopement day slowly!! Brew some coffee, finish writing your vows to each other for your ceremony, do a face mask together, maybe go for a swim, relax in a hot tub, etc.

Then you can dedicate the later part of the day to your adventures! You can do your ceremony,

Sunrise Ceremony with Activities Later in the Day

Want to have your ceremony at sunrise, then dedicate your evening to adventures?! This is a perfect way to do it all, without feeling like you’re rushing to and from things.

This is great if you want to book some sort of excursion/tour (sunset sailboat ride, buggy tour, etc), go for a longer hike, go swimming, kayak around somewhere, build a bonfire, you name it!

Sunrise is For You, Sunset is For Your Loved Ones

If you’re wanting to invite loved ones to your elopement day, but you’re not quite sure how to do that AND have space/time that’s just dedicated to you and your partner?

Dedicate the sunrise and early morning to the both of you! This is your space to exchange your private vows, go for a hike, have some coffee, do anything you’d like together without anyone else present. It’s also a really great way to ground your morning and the start of your elopement experience!

Then you can dedicate the evening to your loved ones! You can do your ceremony, have dinner, play games, have a bonfire with them, go for a boat cruise, etc. And you don’t feel like you’re struggling to catch a moment away so you and your partner can have a moment to yourselves.

You can even do this in reverse order too! You can dedicate the sunrise/early morning to your loved ones, then sunset/evening is for the two of you! That’s the beauty of eloping – you can quite literally do anything you wish.

What You Can Do During Your Midday Break:

  • Have a warm meal that isn’t rushed
  • Get drinks
  • Take a nap
  • Freshen up with a shower
  • Travel to a location that’s a little further away
  • Relax in a hot tub/sauna/hot spring
  • Get coffee
  • Meditate
  • Anything you want
