Kvernufoss Iceland Elopement

Would you believe me if I told you that Iceland is literally one of the most magical places to exist on Earth?! No, I’m being SO SERIOUS!! If you told me to write a love letter to a country, I’d write it about Iceland in a heartbeat. This place is so wild, so breathtaking, that it almost doesn’t feel real. Every single time I visit, I’m like, “How is this even a place that exists?!” and proceed to constantly say “omg this is so beautiful” about a million times 😂😂

Picture this: Cascading waterfalls that look like they’re straight out of a fantasy novel (literally reminds me SO much of Throne of Glass, iykyk). Emerald moss-covered lava fields that look like the trolls from Frozen. Landscapes so otherworldly that your brain can barely process what your eyes are seeing. It’s the PERFECT place to visit for couples who find themselves at home in nature!

Let me show you exactly what I mean through Laura & Hugo’s Kvernufoss Iceland Elopement!

Kvernufoss Iceland Elopement from an Iceland Elopement Photographer

Getting Ready Together at Airbnb in Kirkjubæjarklaustur

Forget the traditional route of not seeing each other the morning of—Laura and Hugo chose to share every moment of their day together. Their cozy Airbnb in Kirkjubæjarklaustur became the perfect intimate setting to get into their wedding attire and write their vows!

The morning was relaxed and filled with laughter. Hugo carefully assisted Laura while she did her hair, adjusted her dress, and helped with last-minute details. Their connection was palpable—a blend of excitement, love, and pure adventure that would define their entire day.

Coffee Stop at Skool Beans in Vik

But first, we need some coffee! Skool Beans in Vik was the perfect place to stop for a little caffeination. This adorable converted school bus café provided the perfect respite from the chilly Icelandic day. Laura and Hugo shared a moment of quiet intimacy, sipping hot coffee, and getting ready to adventure to Reynisfjara.

The café’s quirky charm and the steaming mugs of locally roasted coffee became a sweet, candid moment in their elopement day. The baristas at Skool Beans were also SO excited to see Laura and Hugo!! They’re truly some of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet!

Reynisfjara Beach Elopement Photos

After we got caffeinated, the next stop was the iconic Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, a landscape that looks like it belongs on another planet!! The dramatic black volcanic sand, towering basalt columns, and powerful waves created a backdrop that was nothing short of epic!

Laura and Hugo braved the wind and rain, their love standing strong against the raw power of the Icelandic coastline. The contrast of Laura’s white dress against the black sand and the moody gray skies was absolutely breathtaking.

Kvernufoss Waterfall Elopement Ceremony

Kvernufoss—a hidden gem—became the space for Laura and Hugo’s ceremony. Tucked away near the more famous Skógafoss, this 30-meter waterfall offered an intimate, mystical background!

What made this moment truly special was the sense of complete privacy and connection with nature. No crowds, no distractions—just two people making a lifelong commitment surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery on earth. (Oh, and the wind made a little bit of an appearance too!)

Ending L&H’s Iceland Elopement Adventure at Skogafoss Waterfall

As the day drew to a close, Skógafoss was the last stop on Laura and Hugo’s elopement agenda! Can you tell their elopement day was moody af?

Laura and Hugo embraced the wind, laughed, and celebrated their love with the 60-meter waterfall thundering behind them. Their joy was infectious!

Pro Tip for Couples: An Iceland elopement isn’t just a wedding. It’s an adventure, a journey, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Embrace the unexpected, be prepared for anything, and let the magic of the landscape guide your day.
