The Best Places To Elope At In Wisconsin

  1. Madeline Island
  2. Interstate State Park
  3. Bayfield
  4. Cave Point County Park
  5. Lake Pepin
  6. Pattison State Park
  7. Devil’s Lake State Park

Madeline Island

The Best Time of the Year to Elope Here: Between June and October

Where to Stay: Consider staying at the Madeline Island Inn!

I’ve traveled to Madeline Island a few times now, and it’s just an absolutely stunning location. I think it may be my most favorite spot in Wisconsin to be totally honest! Madeline Island is the largest island in Lake Superior that has just magnificent views of Lake Superior. It has miles of sandy white beaches and lots of beautiful bluffs. If you love the outdoors, you can explore by hiking, biking, canoeing, or kayaking! Madeline Island is truly a little slice of paradise in Wisconsin. It’s quiet, and just so beautiful. Lake Superior may not seem like much, but it’s often too cold to swim in year around leaving it crystal-clear blue! In a lot of spots, you can see down to the bottom.

If you’re wanting to elope in the winter months…. maybe steer clear of Madeline Island!! The average temperature in the winter months is anywhere from 22°F-27°F…. and that’s not including the freezing cold wind that rips off the lake!

The perfect time to elope on Madeline Island is anytime between June and September! If you want EPIC colors and views for your photos, I definitely recommend eloping at sunrise or sunset!

Pro Tip: My favorite beach on Madeline Island is at Big Bay Town Park!

Interstate State Park

The Best Time of the Year to Elope Here: Between May and October!

Where to Stay: If you’re looking for a super relaxed and quiet place to stay, consider staying at this adorable farm in Taylor’s Falls!

Interstate State Park is right on the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin. It’s only about an hour away from Minneapolis, and offers breathtaking views from the bluffs! The Ice Age/Pothole trail (On the WI side!) offers privacy, beautiful trees, the St.Croix River, and towering bluffs to give you amazing scenery everywhere you look. This spot is perfect if you don’t want to travel very far away from the Cities, but want to feel like you’re miles and miles away from the hustle and bustle.

I recommend eloping at this location during the summer or fall months! If you decide to elope in the winter, please be EXTREMELY careful!! The Ice Age/Pot Hole trail becomes very slippery and dangerous during the winter. (If you do adventure out there in the winter, I recommend putting these on your boots to prevent any kind of slipping! YakTrax)

Bayfield

The Best Time of the Year to Elope Here: Between May and October!

Where to Stay: Check out this motel that is locally owned by two of the cutest people ever – the Seagull Bay Motel!!

If one town was a mirrored image of any town in Hallmark movies, Bayfield would be it! It’s right on Lake Superior, and is actually the town you go through if you want to get to Madeline Island! There’s adorable shops, an amazing cafe (Kickapoo Coffee), a ferry to Madeline Island (Mad Ferry), a gorgeous apple farm (Blue Vista Farm), and sooo much more!

Pro Tip: I totally recommend making a weekend out of your trip to Bayfield/Madeline Island. There’s so much to do in the area, especially if you’re an adventurer!!

Cave Point County Park

The Best Time of the Year to Elope Here: Between June and October!

Where to Stay: This Airbnb is PERFECT for unwinding after your big day in this area!

Cave Point is on the peninsula of Lake Michigan and holy wow, is this park just jaw dropping from all angles!! Cave Point County Park is located in Door County, on the Eastern side of the state. The water is a tropical blue and crystal-clear, making you feel like you’re looking into the ocean in the summertime. This spot is truly beautiful for an elopement or even an adventurous couples session! The foliage in the fall makes for epic scenery for your elopement.

If you love kayaking, this would make for a super fun getaway for you and your lover! There are super unique underwater caves that you can visit by kayak, but if you’re not experienced, you may want to consider going with a guide!

If you’re the adventurous type, cliff jumping is also super popular at Cave Point County Park! There is no lifeguard on duty, so please do this at your own risk. But if you’re an experienced cliff jumper, I totally recommend getting some EPIC shots of you and your lover jumping into the water with your wedding attire on! It’ll truly be a day you’ll never forget.

Lake Pepin

The Best Time of the Year to Elope Here: Between May and October!

Where to Stay: If you’re a fan of older bed and breakfast stays, check out The Maiden Rock Inn!

Lake Pepin is an extremely small, quaint but beautiful town located in Western Wisconsin that is also that birthplace of Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote the popular The Little House on the Prairie series!

There are a couple of super cute spots located in Lake Pepin, and it’s not a far drive for those who are located in the Twin Cities area!

If you love Italy and the idea of getting married in a classy vineyard with excellent food but don’t want to necessarily travel all that way – Villa Bellezza is a perfect spot for you and your boo!

If you’re looking for a rustic, quaint, hidden gem with stunning fields – then The Hidden Meadow and Barn is just simply perfect for you. The fields at sunset are just absolutely magical and breathtaking for your elopement!! There is just so much to love about this adorable spot in Lake Pepin!

If you want a super simple location to elope at in the area with STUNNING views – consider having your elopement at Maidenwood!

Pro Tip: Plan for a fall elopement to get the beauty of the colorful leaves!!

Pattison State Park

the best places to elope in wisconsin

The Best Time of the Year to Elope Here: Between May and September!

Where to Stay: Pier B Resort is located in Duluth along Lake Superior, and offers a romantic setting for couples!

Did you know that Pattison State Park has the highest waterfalls in the whole state of Wisconsin?! This Wisconsin State Park isn’t super popular, so if you’re looking for a beautiful location to tie the knot with your soulmate with an intimate setting – Pattison State Park is a great option!

Pattison State Park is only 30 minutes away from Duluth – located just off the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin!

Pro Tip: Spend a weekend or a whole week around Duluth to explore all the state parks this area has to offer!!

Devil’s Lake State Park

The Best Time of the Year to Elope Here: Between May and September!

Where to Stay: Check out these Airbnb stays that are located around Devil’s Lake!

Located in Baraboo Wisconsin, Devil’s Lake State Park is undoubtedly Wisconsin’s most popular state park!! I mean, why wouldn’t you elope here when there’s 500-foot bluffs and a 360 degree view of this gorgeous lake!!

This state park is located along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail (and yes, glaciers used to exist here!) and is just absolutely BEAUTIFUL! You cannot go wrong with eloping here, if you and your partner are obsessed with the outdoors!!
