Sam and David’s elopement was nothing short of magical. Between the rushing waterfalls, quiet forest trails, and calm Lake Superior shoreline: their day felt intimate, joyful, and completely true to them.

Private Vows at the Falls

The morning started with Sam and David sharing private vows near the waterfalls. Sam looked every inch the bride, in a flowing lace and tulle gown. David perfectly complimented her in a light gray suit. They looked right at home against the rocky cliffs and rushing water. Spring blossoms framed the trails, giving their ceremony an extra romantic touch. If you’ve ever worried about tourists around the falls, May is the perfect month. The trails were quiet, and they had space to focus only on each other. This is just another reason this is the best time to elope at Gooseberry Falls State Park.

Legal Wedding Ceremony at Black Beach with Witnesses

After vows, Sam and David headed to Black Beach for their legal ceremony. With the dark sand, dramatic cliffs, and calm Superior waters, it was the perfect backdrop for an intimate exchange with their witnesses. The textures of the black sand against their wedding outfits made for timeless photos. And in case you’re wondering, no, you don’t need a special permit to elope here. Making it a simple (but honestly, unforgettable) option.

Celebrating with Friends at Palisade Head

Once the legal part was official, the couple celebrated with a champagne toast alongside a few close friends at Palisade Head. The sweeping views of Lake Superior created the kind of backdrop that feels larger than life. With laughter, hugs, and bubbly, what more could you want? It was the perfect way to honor the adventure they’d just started together.

Planning How to Elope at Gooseberry Falls Elopement:

If you’re dreaming of your special day, here are a few helpful things to know:

  • Permits: You don’t need a permit to elope here unless you’re planning a larger gathering.
  • Guest Count: Gooseberry Falls is best for up to 20 guests. If you’re inviting more, consider renting Lady Slipper Lodge.
  • Timing: May is the sweet spot for fewer crowds and gorgeous spring colors. Summer and fall are beautiful, but busier.
  • Locations: You can mix and match spots like the Falls, Black Beach, and Palisade Head for variety in your day.
