Sarah and Andy’s Wisconsin beach elopement was one for the books. These two chose to tie the knot in a way that felt totally authentic to them: simple, intentional, and surrounded by nature. As a wedding photographer, this was a dream day for me to photograph. I absolutely love when my couples center their preferences and love in the day, instead of tradition. It always feels so peaceful and profound.
The morning was slow and peaceful, with mist clinging to the trees and the sound of wind through the pines. I wish I could transport the fresh, forest smell through the photos too! It was an amazing backdrop for their day.
Sarah wore a flowing lace gown with vintage-inspired sleeves and a flower crown that gave total woodland goddess energy. Needless to say, she was gorgeous. Andy kept things classic with khaki pants, a dark green jacket, and a red tie that popped perfectly against the forest backdrop. Together, they explored the property hand-in-hand, pointing out little plants and mushrooms. Just taking in the stillness before heading off to the lake.
When they reached Lake Superior’s south shore, the light was soft and moody. Exactly the kind of weather that makes you feel small, but in the best way. Their ceremony took place right on the sand, with waves rolling in just a few feet away. Two of their closest friends stood by to witness as they exchanged rings and heartfelt vows.
After the official “I do,” they popped champagne and laughed through the chill that settled in as the sun began to drop on their Wisconsin beach elopement.
Every look, every laugh, every quiet pause… it all felt real and unhurried. When you center your own desires & sincerity throughout your wedding day, you end up with these really big, deep moments you will remember forever. As someone whose job it is to capture memories in real-time, these days are always so special to me.
After they were officially husband and wife, we took some moments to walk along the beach. These two strolled by the water and really basked in that magical feeling of “Holy WOW we just got married!!” This part of every celebration is always one of my favorite moments. It’s quiet and intimate. I back away a little with my camera, and let you have time unprompted. These portraits always end up being some of my favorites.
And in true sentimental fashion, Sarah added a personal touch that made this Wisconsin beach elopement even more meaningful. She handmade their wedding rings and her necklace using Lake Superior agates she had found herself. Talk about full-circle. Adding personal details is always going to elevate your wedding. Those are piece that will intertwine in your life, and carry forward. Always reminding you of that special day you eloped.
Whether it’s just the two of you or a few loved ones by your side, eloping in a place that means something to you makes every moment that much beautiful. Sarah and Andy’s day was proof that you don’t need a big production to make it unforgettable. Truly, you just love, laughter, and maybe a bottle of champagne on the beach.
If you’re dreaming of your own Wisconsin beach elopement, take this as your sign to make it happen. The lake, the forest, and the moody northern skies are waiting.
